Manchester United are preparing a revised bid for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo after their initial offer of £55million was rejected, according to The Daily Mail.
Brentford are reportedly pushing for a fee exceeding £60million, while United’s opening bid consisted of £45million upfront plus £10million in bonuses.
Mbeumo is considered a key target for Man United as they look to strengthen their underperforming squad following a difficult season.
The Red Devils managed to score just 44 goals in the Premier League, the second-lowest tally among teams that avoided relegation.
The 25-year-old forward’s contract expires next year, although Brentford hold an option to extend it by 12 months.
If the deal goes through, Mbeumo could become United’s second signing of the summer, following the £62.5million acquisition of Matheus Cunha.
United missed out on an estimated £100million in revenue after failing to qualify for the Champions League, losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.
However, the potential sales of academy graduates Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho could generate significant profit under the club’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), potentially freeing up funds for further spending this transfer window.
Brentford value Mbeumo at over £60million, and the Cameroon international is reportedly eager to join Old Trafford if an agreement can be reached.
Brentford head coach Thomas Frank acknowledged that the club, which finished five places above United in the Premier League last season, would be willing to sell their forward if the right offer arrives.
He said: “If he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount. It is a lot. Mucho. Really a lot. Then it is clear that it is impossible to replace him one for one. It cannot be done.
“There is a reason why he costs x number of million pounds, and we do not have x number of million pounds to buy for.
“I would say that I would be surprised if a lot of big clubs don’t look at him. I would be surprised with what he has to offer.”
