Manchester United’s Tyrell Malacia joins PSV Eindhoven on loan

Manchester United have confirmed that left-back Tyrell Malacia has joined PSV Eindhoven on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Dutch defender arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022, signing from Feyenoord for a fee of around £13million under Erik ten Hag.

Initially providing cover for Luke Shaw, Malacia impressed with his energy and attacking intent.

However, a long-term injury sidelined him for 17 months, forcing him to miss the entire 2023/24 campaign.

He only returned to Premier League action in December but has managed to complete more than 45 minutes just once this season, fuelling speculation about a potential exit in search of regular game time.

Tyrell Malacia was linked with moves to Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce and Portuguese giants Benfica – reportedly even bidding farewell to his United teammates at one point.

However, neither transfer materialised, and he has instead returned to the Eredivisie, where he made 98 league appearances for Feyenoord, including one season under current Liverpool boss Arne Slot.

Although the English transfer window closed on Monday, Dutch clubs had an additional day to finalize deals, allowing PSV to secure Malacia’s services.

The reigning Eredivisie champions, managed by Peter Bosz, are currently leading the league and have advanced to the knockout phase of the revamped Champions League, where they face Juventus in this month’s play-offs.

Despite their strong campaign, PSV have shown defensive frailties, conceding 14 goals in their last six matches.

Malacia’s arrival could provide much-needed reinforcement at left-back as they push for domestic and European success.

Meanwhile, Manchester United had already moved to strengthen their left-back position, signing Patrick Dorgu on a permanent deal.

The highly rated Dane is expected to provide Ruben Amorim with a consistent and natural option in that role moving forward.
