Omar Marmoush bids farewell to Frankfurt fans ahead of Manchester City move

Omar Marmoush has officially bid farewell to Eintracht Frankfurt fans as he prepares to join Manchester City in a high-profile transfer.

The Egyptian forward was excluded from Frankfurt’s squad for their impressive 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund, with City requesting that he not feature due to ongoing transfer negotiations.

Marmoush, currently the Bundesliga’s second-highest scorer behind Harry Kane, has been instrumental for Frankfurt this season, netting 15 goals that have propelled the club to third place in the table.

However, Frankfurt will now have to navigate the remainder of the campaign without their star forward after agreeing to a £68million deal with City.

The Egyptian international watched from the stands as Hugo Ekitike and Oscar Hojlund secured a vital win for Frankfurt.

Following the final whistle, Marmoush joined his teammates on the pitch, where he received a rousing ovation from the home crowd and his colleagues.

Clearly emotional, he was seen with his head in his hands as his teammates congratulated him on the milestone move.

Marmoush later addressed the fans, thumping his chest and raising his arms in appreciation as he said a heartfelt goodbye.

Earlier in the day, Frankfurt confirmed Marmoush’s absence from the matchday squad, downplaying the ongoing negotiations.

The club said: “Eintracht Frankfurt are currently in talks with another club regarding the transfer of Omar Marmoush. As a result, he is not included in the squad today.”

Despite his absence, the team delivered a crucial victory that keeps them firmly in the top four and just two points behind second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.

Manchester City initially aimed to sign Omar Marmoush for £40million, but Frankfurt stood firm, citing the mid-season timing and the challenge of finding a replacement.

The higher fee reflects Marmoush’s importance to the club and his exceptional form this season.

Marmoush’s arrival at Man City addresses a gap in Pep Guardiola’s squad, following the manager’s admission that it was a mistake not to replace Julian Alvarez last summer.

The transfer could push City’s January spending to over £160million, with deals for centre-backs Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis also in the works.

The move represents a significant step for Marmoush, who now joins the reigning Premier League champions as they continue to strengthen their squad for domestic and European success.
