Real Madrid close in on Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen

Real Madrid’s pursuit of Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen is reportedly a “done deal” in Spain, potentially bringing a swift end to one of this summer’s most-talked-about transfer sagas.

Huijsen has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Premier League since his quiet move from Juventus last summer and made his senior Spain debut in March.

The Dutch-born defender has attracted interest from top clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich, all looking to strengthen their defence, but Madrid appear confident they will secure the signing.

The key factor remains Huijsen’s decision.

His £50million (€59 million) release clause – payable to Bournemouth in three instalments – makes the deal triggerable by multiple clubs.

Spanish outlet MARCA leads with the headline “Everything Agreed,” claiming that contract documents are already being exchanged between Real Madrid and Bournemouth, with only an official announcement pending.

According to MARCA, Huijsen has reportedly rejected seven other “concrete offers.”

If Madrid complete the deal promptly, Huijsen could be registered during FIFA’s exceptional mini-transfer window at the start of June and be eligible to play from the beginning of the Club World Cup.

Historically, Madrid have been known to brief Spanish media prematurely to increase pressure on involved parties, but recent reports from other countries, including a similar story from The Telegraph, add credibility to MARCA’s claims that Madrid have “won the race” for Huijsen.

A crucial turning point for Madrid was reportedly a breakthrough on the 20-year-old’s salary demands, which helped them edge out strong competition from Chelsea.

Defence has been a problematic area for Madrid this season, with long-term injuries to Eder Militao, David Alaba struggling after a lengthy absence, and Antonio Rudiger playing through pain for months before recently undergoing surgery.

Right-back Dani Carvajal has also missed most of the campaign, while doubts remain over Ferland Mendy’s fitness.

Suddenly, however, Madrid’s back four could look very different next season with the expected arrival of Huijsen alongside the imminent signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The England full-back’s contract at Liverpool expires on 30 June, but negotiations over a nominal transfer fee of around €1million could allow him to move three weeks earlier and, like Huijsen, be registered during the mini-window.
