Ronald Araujo has completed his Liverpool medical ahead of an initial loan move from Barcelona, according to Sky Sports.

The signing of the Uruguay international is expected to be announced this afternoon.

The loan deal includes an option to buy for around £47.14m (€55m). Araujo primarily plays as a centre-back but can also operate at right-back, providing cover in two positions where Liverpool currently have injury concerns.

The 27-year-old, who signed a new Barcelona contract until 2031 last year, joined the club from Uruguayan side Boston River in 2018 before making his first-team debut in 2019.

Meanwhile, Uruguay teammate Darwin Nunez has wished Ronald Araujo the best ahead of his move to Liverpool.

Posting on X, former Reds striker Nunez wrote: “I wish you the best in this great club, friend @RonaldAraujo_4…

“I’m deeply glad that you can feel what the affection and support of the @LFC fans is like, they are special and they’re going to make you feel it that way, now you’re a Red too, from afar always wishing you the best ¡VAMO ARRIBA!”
