Ruben Amorim has promised that Manchester United will play “without fear” under his leadership, vowing to do everything possible to bring the Premier League title back to Old Trafford.
In his first public comments since taking over as United’s new manager, Amorim emphasised that his initial message to the players would be one of courage and belief, urging them to fear no one.
The 39-year-old, who is expected to implement a three-at-the-back system, also highlighted the importance of improving the players’ character and mindset, stating that these factors are more crucial than any tactical changes.
“We have to start from day one without fear, without thinking that they are not used to playing like this,” said Amorim.
“They will start on the first day with our idea, no matter what. That’s the goal.
“A long time ago, we didn’t win the Premier League. But if you ask, Manchester United is the biggest club in England. This is part of history, it’s not now. So we have to address that, to show that and to try to win again.
“I will do everything for the team. I will defend my players, all the time, against everybody.
“That’s a key point for me and I will try to do everything to put this club in the place that it belongs. And I believe a lot that we are going to succeed.
“I don’t want to say that we need time because we are a young team. They are prepared. They are prepared to cope with the demands of playing for Manchester United. They should be, because they are. They are here.
“We know it will take time and we will try to win time with the games. I think it’s important because a lot of people now talk about the 3-4-3 and the 4-3-3 and all that stuff.
“But when I think as a player or as a team-mate of Manchester United, it is not a system of formation, it’s like the character of the players, the way they see the club.
“I know it’s a massive challenge, but I feel quite relaxed. I feel at home and I think that is important in the beginning. So I’m very excited. We want to do something special in the special club.”
“First of all, I think I felt a connection with the club,” Amorim added.
“I feel a connection with the people in the club and that’s very important for me, because I want to work with people I like and I feel a connection. The second point is the history of this club.
“All the people are hungry for success and I feel that this is the place that I want to be also because of that, because you can be part of something special, not just one more. And that is something that I really like.
“When you see the games here, when you see the interaction with the managers, with the players, even in difficult moments, I think it’s a special club. So it’s a lot of reasons.
“But the first reason is because it’s a club with a great history.”
