Stefan Bajcetic faces race against time to feature for Liverpool in pre-season

Stefan Bajcetic is in a race against time to feature for Liverpool in pre-season after undergoing surgery to repair a hamstring injury.

The 20-year-old midfielder had the operation last month after sustaining the injury toward the end of his loan spell at Las Palmas.

Bajcetic began his rehabilitation following the surgery, which was necessary after he picked up the injury shortly after half-time during Las Palmas’ defeat to Sevilla on May 15.

Now, he faces a tough battle to recover in time to participate in Liverpool’s pre-season preparations.

Manager Arne Slot is reportedly willing to give Bajcetic an opportunity if he is fit and available.

This injury marks the latest setback in what has been a challenging few years for Bajcetic since breaking into the Liverpool first team during the 2022/23 season.

In March 2023, he suffered an adductor injury that limited him to just two appearances over the following 14 months, with a calf problem further disrupting his return.

After featuring in pre-season under new head coach Arne Slot, Bajcetic was sent on loan to Red Bull Salzburg to reunite with former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders.

However, following Lijnders’ dismissal, Bajcetic’s loan in Austria was cut short, and he subsequently joined Las Palmas for the remainder of the season.

Unfortunately, Las Palmas were relegated from La Liga.

Bajcetic had also been recalled to the Spain under-21 side this season, but due to his recent hamstring surgery, he will miss the upcoming UEFA European Under-21 Championships starting this week.
