Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic has returned to first-team training ahead of the new season, which kicks off on Friday night, Binge Football can exclusively reveal.
Bajcetic did not feature for Liverpool in pre-season after undergoing surgery on a hamstring injury.
He had the operation in May, following a problem sustained towards the end of his loan spell at Las Palmas.
However, Binge Football understands that the Spanish midfielder has returned to training for the first time as he works to rebuild his fitness.
The injury adds to a series of setbacks for Bajcetic in recent years since breaking into Liverpool’s first team during the 2022/23 season.
After suffering an adductor injury in March 2023, Bajcetic made just two appearances in the following 14 months, with his comeback further hampered by a calf problem.
The midfielder featured in pre-season under new head coach Arne Slot before being sent on loan to Red Bull Salzburg for a reunion with former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders.
However, following Lijnders’ sacking, Bajcetic’s stay in Austria was cut short, and he spent the remainder of the season back in Spain with Las Palmas, who were ultimately relegated from La Liga.
Bajcetic was recalled this season to the Spain under-21 side, but his hamstring operation meant he missed the UEFA European U21 Championships over the summer.
