Trent Alexander-Arnold to miss Liverpool’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham

Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham Hotspur due to injury.

The right-back was forced off during last weekend’s 4-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth, and Arne Slot confirmed on Wednesday that he will not be available for the crucial clash at Anfield.

The Reds, who trail 1-0 from the first leg, will need to overturn the deficit without one of their key creative outlets.

Alexander-Arnold’s absence is a blow for Liverpool, but Slot will be hoping his side can step up in his absence as they aim to book a place in the final.

Slot told reporters ahead of the Carabao Cup: “He is going to miss the game tomorrow and we have to see if he is able to play on Sunday. But what we do know is that he is not available for tomorrow.”

When asked for more detail on Alexander-Arnold’s issue, the head coach replied: “I think you saw that he left the pitch with a bit of a pain in his leg, so that’s why he misses the game tomorrow.

“But he is already on the pitch, not with the team but with the rehab coach, so let’s see how long it is going to take. But he will not be available tomorrow.”

Conor Bradley is set to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold should the England international fail to recover in time.

However, manager Arne Slot may soon have Joe Gomez available again.

The versatile defender, who can also play right-back, returned to training late last week.

While Gomez wasn’t included in the squad for the trip to Bournemouth, it remains unclear whether he will be ready to face Tottenham.
