Viktor Gyokeres is expected to turn down potential moves to Manchester United and Arsenal this summer, according to his uncle.
The Gyokeres family reportedly made a decisive call about the striker’s future during a family dinner, shortly before celebrating Sporting Lisbon’s back-to-back league titles.
Speaking on the final day of the Liga Portugal season, Gyokeres’ uncle, Chris, dropped a major hint regarding the 25-year-old’s plans.
He believes that despite growing interest from top Premier League clubs, Gyökeres is likely to remain at Sporting Lisbon for at least another season.
He said: “I’m super happy, this is amazing.
“We were here last year, it’s the same spirit, the same people, the same atmosphere. Absolutely fantastic! Beyond words!
“Yesterday at dinner we decided that he has to stay.
“Yes, we think so. We hope so, because look… We love it, it’s incredible, the country, the people and Sporting. And the Lions.”
Gyokeres continues to be linked with a move to the Premier League after another standout season in front of goal.
The 25-year-old has taken Portuguese football by storm since joining Sporting from Championship side Coventry City in a £16.8million deal.
He scored 43 goals in his debut campaign and followed that up with a remarkable 53 goals in 51 appearances this season, bringing his total to 96 goals in just 101 games for the club.
Speaking after scoring in Sporting’s 2-0 win over Vitoria on the final day of the season, Gyokeres remained tight-lipped about his future.
“We’ll see. It’s the future. Football is like that, you never know what’s going to happen,” he told reporters.
Sporting are believed to be open to offers for their star forward, who is high on the wish lists of both Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim.
Arsenal have long been searching for a clinical No. 9, and Gyokeres, valued at around £60million, could represent a more affordable option compared to Arteta’s top target, Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.
