Liverpool pursued Yankuba Minteh late in the summer transfer window, and the Brighton winger has now responded to the Reds’ interest.
Brighton rejected offers of £50 million and £60 million for the injured forward, with Liverpool ultimately deciding against making another bid due to his injury, which is expected to keep him sidelined until November.
Liverpool could revisit a move for Minteh in January, but the 22-year-old is currently focused on returning to action for Brighton.
Speaking to GRTS while on international duty with Gambia during their AFCON qualifier, via Foday Manneh, Minteh said of the summer: “I am focused. I am in Brighton. That is the team I am playing for.
“That is my team and I don’t want to talk much about transfers. What God has decided for me, I am happy with it.
“I am really, really eager to come back and help my team because they are doing good at the moment, but if I come back I will do my best to help them.”
Yankuba Minteh expects to return from his leg injury “very soon”, although it remains to be seen whether he will be fit for Brighton’s trip to Anfield on October 25.
His response to Liverpool’s failed attempt to sign him is typical of modern players, avoiding further speculation over his future.
However, the door remains open for Liverpool to revisit a move for the 22-year-old in January, with Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler previously hinting that Minteh’s “dream” could still be realised.
The club will hope the 2027 right-wing market offers more options after missing out on top target Yan Diomande to Real Madrid before turning to left-sided alternatives.
