Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has reportedly been approached about joining a consortium in talks to buy a minority stake in Liverpool.

According to Sky Sports News, Bezos has held discussions about joining a group led by former Queens Park Rangers co-owner Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of billionaire steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal.

However, a source cautioned that the Amazon and Blue Origin founder has not yet decided whether to proceed with an investment.

Jeff Bezos, whose fortune is estimated by Forbes at almost $257billion, has previously explored bids for NFL franchises including the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders but did not complete either deal.

The consortium, led by Bhatia and backed by the Mittal family, has appointed advisers to negotiate with Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG). The Financial Times reports that any deal would value the club at more than $6billion (£4.5bn).

Bhatia stepped down as QPR co-owner on July 21 after transferring his stake to Ruben Gnanalingam, clearing the way for his proposed investment in Liverpool.

An FSG spokesperson confirmed the discussions, saying: “An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.”

Sky Sports News understands any agreement would mirror FSG’s 2023 deal with Dynasty Equity, which acquired a minority stake for around £164million. The proceeds were used to reduce debt and fund infrastructure projects rather than player transfers.
