Dominik Szoboszlai has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool, extending his stay at Anfield until 2031.

Liverpool opened talks with the midfielder’s representatives earlier this year to reward his progress since joining from RB Leipzig for £60million in 2023.

Negotiations resumed in recent weeks, and the Hungary captain has now signed an improved five-year deal despite still having two years remaining on his previous contract.

Szoboszlai has established himself as a key figure at Liverpool, becoming a regular under Jurgen Klopp before playing an integral role in the club’s 2024-25 Premier League title-winning campaign under Arne Slot.

He also impressed during a difficult 2025-26 season, showcasing his versatility by playing in several positions, including right-back, and was voted the club’s Player of the Season.

The 25-year-old has made 147 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 28 goals and providing 24 assists. He is also among the candidates to become the club’s new vice-captain following Andy Robertson’s departure.

The contract extension is a significant boost for new head coach Andoni Iraola as he prepares for his first season in charge.

While Ryan Gravenberch signed a new six-year deal earlier this year, Curtis Jones has entered the final 12 months of his contract, and Wataru Endo is also set to become a free agent next summer.

Alexis Mac Allister, like Dominik Szoboszlai before his renewal, has two years remaining on his current deal, although Liverpool have yet to open negotiations amid ongoing interest from Real Madrid.
