Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo have been left out of Liverpool’s 25-man Champions League squad, while Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike have been included.
Liverpool begin their campaign against Atlético Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday, with further league-phase fixtures against LASK, Villarreal, Fenerbahce, Club Brugge, Porto, Inter Milan and Lens.
Federico Chiesa, who is sidelined with a pre-season injury, has been omitted for the second consecutive season. He was added to last season’s squad after Leoni suffered a serious knee injury on his debut in September.
Leoni is expected to return to training during this month’s international break and could feature before the end of the year.
Bradley and Ekitike, however, are unlikely to return during the league phase as they continue recovering from long-term injuries.
Endo is fit again after his own lay-off but misses out, with James McConnell included instead.
Champions League clubs can name 25 List A players, with at least eight required to be homegrown or locally trained. Young players such as Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni can be registered on List B.
