Federico Chiesa intends to report for Liverpool’s pre-season and attempt to impress new head coach Andoni Iraola before making a decision on his future.
The Italian is still expected to leave Anfield this summer after two injury-hit seasons on Merseyside, but he will first take part in the club’s pre-season preparations.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano recently revealed on his YouTube channel: “At the present time, the decision made by the Liverpool player is to participate in the pre-season.”
According to Romano, Federico Chiesa wants to meet with Iraola and “play his cards” following the managerial change at the club.
Discussions with Iraola and Liverpool’s coaching staff are expected as squad planning continues following the arrival of Victor Munoz and the club’s pursuit of Yan Diomande.
Chiesa’s stance mirrors his recent comments regarding his future and means he is set to join Liverpool on their pre-season tour of the United States next month.
Chiesa has played just 1,253 minutes across his two seasons at Anfield and was not included in a recent report outlining Liverpool’s long-term plans for the wide attacking positions.
The 28-year-old can operate across the front line, but after expressing his desire for regular football, he could be forced to seek a move elsewhere if Iraola does not see him as part of his plans.
Romano named Juventus, Inter, Napoli and AS Roma as potential destinations, with a return to Italy widely anticipated later in the transfer window.
Liverpool currently have limited attacking depth heading into next season, particularly with Hugo Ekitike expected to be sidelined until 2027 with a serious Achilles injury.
Diomande remains a key target and, even if Chiesa departs, Iraola would still require sufficient attacking options to cope with the demands of the campaign.
Should regular game time not be guaranteed, Chiesa is expected to push for an exit, while supporters will be keen to see whether Liverpool add further attacking reinforcements beyond Diomande.
