Alexis Mac Allister is entering the final two years of his Liverpool contract, prompting growing interest from clubs monitoring his situation ahead of a potential transfer.
Unlike Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, Mac Allister has yet to open talks over an extension to his current deal, which runs until 2028.
The lack of progress has fuelled speculation over his long-term future at Anfield, particularly as he approaches his peak years at 27.
Whether a move materialises this summer remains uncertain, but transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that several clubs are “starting to look at” the possibility of signing the Argentina international.
Liverpool, however, are under no immediate pressure to sell and retain a strong position given the length of his remaining contract.
“Mac Allister’s situation could be interesting this summer, in case of good proposals for Liverpool and for the player,” Romano explained on YouTube.
“I would not rule out changes in midfield for Liverpool.
“This obviously doesn’t mean Mac Allister is 100 percent leaving, this doesn’t mean that Mac Allister is out of Liverpool’s project. I’m not saying this.
“I am saying that in case of a good proposal for the club and for the player, the situation of Mac Allister could eventually develop during the summer transfer window.
“This could be a topic. It’s not guaranteed, it’s not close, it’s not advanced, but it could be a topic.”
The situation bears similarities to that of Cody Gakpo, who is also attracting interest this summer but is not considered certain to leave Liverpool.
However, it could indicate that the club would be willing to consider significant offers for both Alexis Mac Allister and Gakpo, given they are among the more experienced members of the squad and still command considerable market value.
Should Liverpool complete a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, the England international could potentially take Mac Allister’s place in Andoni Iraola’s midfield, alongside two of Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz.
With the domestic season now concluded, any discussions regarding Mac Allister’s future are likely to take place during Argentina’s World Cup campaign.
