Liverpool are waiting to discover the extent of Jeremy Jacquet’s injury after he was forced to miss France’s UEFA Nations League clash with Belgium on Monday.

Jeremy Jacquet was absent from the 4-1 win, with the French Football Federation confirming that the centre-back had suffered a “strain to his left hamstring”.

The 21-year-old will now return to Merseyside for further assessment, with concerns over his availability for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola already has doubts over Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo, who picked up thigh and ankle injuries respectively while on international duty last week.

Jacquet had started France’s previous two games after receiving his first senior call-up under new head coach Zinedine Zidane.

However, Zidane later played down concerns over the defender, explaining that every player in his squad was given game time during the international break.

“We did what we said we would, we prepared things so that everyone would have their moment, and that’s what we wanted over the 15 days,” said Zidane.

“We also had to be careful with the players; we couldn’t just do anything, so it was important that everyone had their moment.

“We’re happy it went like this, that everyone was able to play. The only one who didn’t start was Jean Butez, but even Lenny Yoro played and had a fantastic match after Jeremy (Jacquet) was slightly injured, so it’s really great.”

Jacquet has been in excellent form since joining Liverpool from Rennes in a £60 million deal this summer, starting six of their seven games under Iraola.
