Liverpool have rejected a £30million bid from Nottingham Forest for midfielder Trey Nyoni, according to The Athletic.
Forest offered £25m guaranteed plus £5m in add-ons, but Liverpool made it clear they are not prepared to sanction his departure before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Andoni Iraola is counting on the 19-year-old England youth international after he impressed during pre-season.
Liverpool opted not to replace Curtis Jones following his £30m move to Inter earlier this month, believing Nyoni is ready to take on a bigger role this season.
Trey Nyoni signed a new long-term contract last summer, with further talks expected as his development continues.
He has made 21 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Leicester City’s academy three years ago and impressed after coming off the bench in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Forest at Anfield.
Asked about Nyoni before the start of the season, Iraola said: “I’m very happy with Trey.
“He has been very good in pre-season, not only in the games, even when he trains with us he’s facing top-level players and he’s at the level.
“I have no doubts with Trey. He will be very valuable this season for us, hopefully plays a lot and gives the level that I’m seeing every day in training.”
