Manchester United reportedly keen on signing two Bayern Munich stars in January

Erik ten Hag is looking to bolster his squad in January

Manchester United are reportedly keen on strengthening their squad in the January transfer window, with two Bayern Munich stars Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka on their radar.

According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils are closely monitoring the situations of both players.

United are particularly focused on bolstering their midfield and are considering Goretzka as an option for the defensive midfield role.

This comes after their summer acquisition of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain for £51 million ($60m).

Despite this addition, United remain eager to strengthen further. Goretzka, under contract until 2026, offers experience and physicality, making him a key target.

Meanwhile, Sane, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract with Bayern Munich, is also being watched closely.

The winger’s potential availability could provide United with a creative spark they have been missing this season.

However, Plettenberg notes that both players are unlikely to leave Bayern mid-season, given the club’s current standing and ambitions.

Despite making six signings in the summer of 2024, including Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern, Manchester United have endured a difficult start to the season.

They currently sit 14th in the Premier League and are winless in their last five matches across all competitions.

Erik ten Hag’s side will be looking to reverse their fortunes when they face Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday, before taking on Fenerbahce in the Europa League five days later.
