Bayern Munich executive Uli Hoeness has made it clear that the German champions will not assist Liverpool in their transfer plans, while also taking a swipe at the Reds’ underwhelming campaign despite heavy spending last summer.
Liverpool are facing a major rebuild following the announcement that Mohamed Salah will leave at the end of the 2025–26 season, creating the need for a high-profile replacement.
The Egyptian has agreed to terminate his contract early, easing the club’s future wage commitments.
Bayern winger Michael Olise has long been admired by Liverpool, and Salah’s impending departure has only intensified speculation over a potential move.
However, Bayern have no intention of letting the Frenchman leave and are unwilling to enter negotiations.
Hoeness, a Bayern icon who spent nine years at the club as a player before moving into senior executive roles, made the club’s stance clear in an interview with DPA.
The 74-year-old, now a board member after serving as president and general manager, stressed that Olise is not for sale.
“Remember Liverpool spent €500m last summer and is having a very bad season,” he said.
“So we won’t be contributing to them playing better next year.”
The 24-year-old has been instrumental to Bayern’s success this season, helping drive their Bundesliga title push and Champions League quarter-final run.
He has registered 11 goals and 18 assists in 25 league appearances, along with three goals and four assists in nine European matches.
Signed from Crystal Palace in 2024, Olise is under contract until 2029 and is regarded by Bayern as one of the brightest talents in world football.
Despite attracting interest from elite clubs such as Real Madrid and Liverpool, Bayern’s hierarchy—including sporting director Max Eberl—remain adamant that he will not be sold.
“We’re not even wasting a thought on that,” Eberl said. “He is a Bayern Munich player and has every opportunity here that top players could wish for. We want to shape the future with him.”
Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen reinforced the same stance. He said: “No matter which club tries to turn his head: anyone playing for Bayern Munich knows what they have here.
“We compete for titles, and that is the most important thing for exceptional players like him. For this type of player, it’s about winning trophies.
“There are not many clubs where you can do that, and we are certainly one of them. That’s why I am completely convinced that Michael knows what he has with us.”
