Jeremie Frimpong suffers another injury ahead of Manchester City FA Cup clash

The right-back, who was not named in Ronald Koeman’s starting XI, came on at half-time against Ecuador to replace Reds teammate Cody Gakpo

Liverpool have been handed a fresh injury scare after Jeremie Frimpong was substituted during a brief appearance for the Netherlands.

The right-back, who was not named in Ronald Koeman’s starting XI, came on at half-time against Ecuador to replace Reds teammate Cody Gakpo.

However, after just 13 minutes, Koeman was forced into another change, with Frimpong replaced by Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke.

The exact reason for the substitution remains unclear, but it is likely to raise concerns over another potential injury setback.

Liverpool return to action this weekend in the FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City and are already dealing with multiple injury issues following the international break.

Frimpong has endured a difficult debut season at Anfield, with two separate muscle injuries keeping the former Bayer Leverkusen star out for 19 matches so far.

Arne Slot is expected to provide an update on the club’s injury situation ahead of the clash with City, including Frimpong’s condition.

The Reds are also monitoring Mohamed Salah, who missed the defeat to Brighton due to injury, while Alisson Becker remains a doubt after sitting out the same match.

Alexander Isak is closing in on a return to full fitness after a fractured fibula and ankle injury sustained in December, with Slot previously targeting the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain for his comeback.

Federico Chiesa has also raised concerns after withdrawing from Italy’s squad for their World Cup play-off fixtures.

Meanwhile, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo and Giovanni Leoni remain long-term absentees and are not expected back in the near future.
