Andoni Iraola has no concerns over Alexander Isak’s goalscoring, but admits their “fights” are over other aspects of the striker’s game.
Alexander Isak has scored three goals in three appearances for Liverpool this season, including a brace in Friday’s 2-0 win over Ipswich Town.
However, Iraola insists he still expects more from his No. 9, particularly in Liverpool’s pressing game and his overall contribution.
“He’s a massive player for us,” Andoni Iraola praised.
“Probably my demands will not be about the goals, I know that [if] he’s fit, he’s in good shape, he’s going to produce the numbers.
“My fights with him are more about other stuff, about how to help the team in all the situations.
“But it’s good that he has already played two full games and today also a very good amount of minutes, scoring the goals.
“So I’m very happy to have him, yes.”
Speaking to Sky Sports after the victory, the head coach explained that improving the team’s pressing will help Alexander Isak find himself in better positions to score.
“Today we were much, much better in our press, especially in the first half,” he explained.
“So we were recovering very high, and then we can connect with him in good positions.
“If we were recover the ball lower, I think it’s going to be more difficult to find him, he will have less space.
“So it’s a matter of collective effort, so we can put our No. 9 in situations like he had today.”
