Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah could be handed the chance to become the new figurehead of the Saudi Pro League this summer, with reports suggesting he could treble his £400,000-a-week Liverpool salary.
The 33-year-old has long been admired by Saudi officials, who see him as a potential successor to Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese star is reportedly considering leaving Al-Nassr after becoming frustrated with the league’s transfer policies, particularly following Karim Benzema’s permitted move from Al-Ittihad to rivals Al-Hilal.
Ronaldo, who missed Monday’s match against Al-Riyadh, has been warned that transfer decisions are controlled by an independent committee, amid speculation he could return to Europe to pursue his goal of reaching 1,000 career goals.
Saudi interest in Salah dates back to last summer and remains strong despite the Egyptian pledging his future to Liverpool after last season’s title win.
However, recent tensions with head coach Arne Slot, which saw Salah dropped following public criticism, have fuelled talk of a possible exit.
Liverpool could be tempted by a significant transfer fee and the chance to remove Salah’s wages from their books, with any deal ideally concluded before he joins Egypt for the World Cup.
Salah turns 34 in June and has featured in Liverpool’s last four matches since returning from AFCON.
While expected to start against Manchester City on Sunday, Salah has struggled for form, scoring just six goals in all competitions this season.
Since joining from Roma in 2017, he has scored 251 goals for Liverpool and won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
