Pep Guardiola lifts lid on plan to speak to new Man United coach Ruben Amorim

Amorim officially joins the Red Devils on November 11

Pep Guardiola has welcomed Ruben Amorim to England after Manchester United appointed the Portuguese as their next head coach.

The Red Devils acted quickly following Erik ten Hag’s departure from Old Trafford earlier this week, securing Amorim from Sporting on Friday.

Amorim arrives in the Premier League after an impressive stint at Sporting, where he guided the club to four trophies over the past four years, including two Liga Portugal titles.

A club statement read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements.

“He will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year, once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club. He will join Manchester United on Monday 11 November.

“Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football.

“Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP; the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to take charge of the team until Ruben joins.”

As he prepares for this new challenge in England, Manchester City manager Guardiola extended a warm welcome to the young coach but chose not to offer any specific advice.

Interestingly, Amorim’s final match for Sporting will be against City in a Champions League clash on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, the 53-year-old said, “Welcome to United, to England.

“I congratulate him, [we will speak] next Tuesday.

“I’m not the right person to give advice to colleagues.

“They have a lot of people at United who can give information about what is happening at United.”

The reigning English champions aim to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League table when they face Bournemouth in an away fixture on Saturday.
