
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk believes the squad could use a new attacker amid strong links to Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
The Reds have had a bid of over £100m rejected, but the sales of Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez could provide funds for Arne Slot to make another move for the Sweden striker
“Well we just lost Darwin, he went to Saudi and we lost Lucho, obviously he went to Bayern,” Van Dijk told talkSPORT after the Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
“I think there’s always room for an attacker in order to strengthen us so let’s see what the window brings in terms of the balance of the team.”
The Liverpool skipper meanwhile, expressed disappointment after the minute’s silence for Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva was cut short due to disruptions by some Crystal Palace fans at Wembley.
The silence, held before the Community Shield match on Sunday, was intended to honor the brothers, who died in a car accident on July 3.
The match ended 2-2 in normal time, with Palace winning on penalties.
Van Dijk added: “Yes, I am disappointed. That is the only thing I can say. I don’t know who did that but there was plenty trying to shush it down but obviously that doesn’t help it.
“But it is what it is. You can’t control how many fans were here today? Was it 80,000 people in the stadium?
“So, yeah it is disappointing to hear that but if that person or those persons can go home and be happy with themselves, then…”
