Premier League legend Alan Shearer has disclosed he would be surprised if Curtis Jones is not the first name on the teamsheet following his outstanding performance for Liverpool against Chelsea last weekend.
Jones played a pivotal role in the match, winning a penalty to put the Reds ahead before scoring a well-placed close-range goal in the second half in front of The Kop.
Given his stellar display in the victory, many were taken aback to see Jones start on the bench for the trip to RB Leipzig.
While he did come on as a substitute, Liverpool managed to secure a 1-0 victory, mitigating concerns over his absence from the starting XI.
However, Alan Shearer stated he would be shocked if manager Slot were to keep Jones on the bench for the crucial Premier League clash against Arsenal on Sunday.
Speaking to Betfair, the former Newcastle United striker said: “We said last week that Liverpool will face a huge test in Chelsea, and they’re about to face an even bigger test in Arsenal, away from home, which makes it even more difficult.
“However, whatever tests they’ve had already this season, they’ve passed, and don’t be surprised if they pass this one too.
“I’d be shocked if Curtis Jones wasn’t the first name on the team sheet.
“It would be difficult to understand if you put in the performance like he did last week, get man of the match and the winner, to be then left out the following week.
“I’d be amazed if he wasn’t in the XI.”
On his prediction, he added: “I’m going to say it’ll be a score draw in a fantastic game at the Emirates.
