Alexis Mac Allister is reportedly set to leave Liverpool despite his desire to remain at Anfield.
The midfielder is contracted until the summer of 2028 but is yet to be offered a new deal, having previously expressed disappointment at not receiving an extension.
The Argentine has been one of Liverpool’s standout performers this season, scoring four goals in 12 appearances across all competitions.
However, according to Sky Sports Switzerland, the Reds are considering selling the 27-year-old in the summer of 2027 as part of a midfield overhaul.
Liverpool are prepared to spend a “significant sum” on at least one new midfielder at the end of the current campaign.
Consequently, Mac Allister is not expected to receive a contract extension and has reportedly been informed of the club’s intentions, with his departure now considered a “concrete possibility”.
Earlier this season, Mac Allister admitted he was “sad” about not being offered a new deal, while also revealing that he had turned down the opportunity to leave Liverpool in the summer.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s opening Champions League fixture against Atletico Madrid, the midfielder said: “There was a chance [to leave], of course, like everybody knows.
“I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very sad. I think everyone can see that I give my 100 per cent for this football club, every single day in training.
“Of course I have good games and bad games, but I always give my best. I see Dominik [Szoboszlai] and Ryan [Gravenberch] renewing their contracts, which makes me very happy because they deserve it.
“But at the same time, it makes me sad that I didn’t get mine. Of course there is still time [to be offered a new contract]. Fans don’t need to worry because I will give 100 per cent until my last day.
“We will see what happens. There was options to leave this summer. I think right now I’m in the right club.”
Mac Allister was questioned again about his contract situation after scoring twice to help Liverpool secure a 4-3 Champions League victory over Villarreal last week.
He said: “When I say what I said, it was more about my feelings,” he said. “That’s their decision and it’s fine. I do my best and in the end, we’ll see what happens.”
