Alisson Becker set to return for Liverpool in final Premier League clash with Brentford

Alisson has missed the last 10 games due to a recurrence of hamstring problems that have affected him over the past three seasons

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has said Alisson Becker is expected to return for Liverpool’s Premier League finale at home to Brentford on Sunday.

Alisson has missed the last 10 games due to a recurrence of hamstring problems that have affected him over the past three seasons.

The 33-year-old has been named in Brazil’s 26-man squad for the World Cup in North America, with the Selecao opening their campaign against Morocco on June 13.

Ancelotti said the goalkeeper is on course to be fit for the tournament and could also feature for Liverpool this weekend, although he has not yet returned to full team training despite being back on the grass in the final stage of his recovery.

Alisson Becker has missed 19 matches this season through injury and illness, alongside an expected absence in the early rounds of the League Cup.

Last season, he missed 13 games across the Premier League and Champions League and has not reached more than 28 league starts in any of the last three campaigns.

Liverpool recently activated a 12-month extension to his contract, but questions remain over his long-term future at Anfield, with Juventus reportedly interested in a summer move.

“Alisson is returning from injury but has been training for two weeks,” Ancelotti said. “He is doing normally, he is well, and I believe he will play the next game (for Liverpool).

“Even if he doesn’t play, he has the time to be 100% for the first game of the cup.”
