Alisson Becker withdraws from Brazil squad; set to miss Liverpool’s clash against Brighton

Alisson has reportedly been replaced by Hugo Souza in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the upcoming March international break.

Alisson Becker will miss Liverpool’s Premier League clash at Brighton & Hove Albion, with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to start in goal.

The Brazilian sat out the Champions League defeat to Galatasaray earlier this month with a minor muscle issue but returned against Tottenham and featured again as Liverpool beat the Turkish side 4-0 at Anfield to reach the quarter-finals.

However, Alisson has not travelled with the squad for this weekend, with the club opting not to risk their No.1 at the Amex Stadium.

His absence means Mamardashvili could play a key role in Liverpool’s push for Champions League qualification.

Alisson, who recently had a one-year contract extension triggered, has struggled with fitness in recent seasons, missing 20 Premier League games across the last two campaigns.

He has also reportedly been replaced by Hugo Souza in Brazil’s squad for the upcoming international break.
