Arne Slot blamed for Alexander Isak’s Liverpool struggles

The Reds broke their transfer record last summer by completing a £125million deal for Isak from Newcastle United.

Alexander Isak has struggled to rediscover the form that made him one of the Premier League’s most feared strikers since returning from a serious injury at Liverpool, with former Reds boss Arne Slot’s tactical changes doing him few favours.

That is the view of former Premier League striker Dwight Yorke, who has given his verdict on Liverpool’s record-breaking signing.

The Reds broke their transfer record last summer by completing a £125million deal for Isak from Newcastle United after the Sweden international pushed for a move.

However, the 26-year-old endured a difficult first season at Anfield. He arrived short of full fitness before suffering a broken leg against Tottenham Hotspur in December, sidelining him for more than three months.

Since returning, Isak has struggled to regain his sharpness, prompting questions over whether he can justify Liverpool’s huge investment.

Yorke, a three-time Premier League winner with Manchester United, believes it remains to be seen whether Isak can recapture the form that earned him his blockbuster move to Liverpool.

Speaking to Football betting specialists BOYLE Sports, Yorke said: “Alexander Isak has been in a difficult situation.

“I was a huge fan of his when he was at Newcastle United but I never knew the injuries that he has had so I don’t know what kind of mentality he has needed to come back from that to be the same player.

“It’s always the same. After major injuries you’ve never quite the same and he hasn’t looked anywhere near to the player I loved at Newcastle.

“That might be a little bit of a concern for Liverpool but I think he’s working extremely hard. He’s really trying to get back to that level. I’m just not sure if that’s going to happen for him.

“It’ll be interesting to see how he gets on this season under the new manager, Andoni Iraola, and how he sees it and what he wants to do with the team.”
