Arne Slot emerges as potential candidate to become AC Milan manager

Liverpool confirmed on Saturday that the Dutchman had left his role as head coach with immediate effect after a disappointing end to the 2025-26 campaign

Arne Slot has emerged as a contender for the AC Milan job following his departure from Liverpool.

Liverpool confirmed on Saturday that the Dutchman had left his role as head coach with immediate effect after a disappointing end to the 2025-26 campaign.

Despite securing Champions League qualification, the Reds finished the season on a four-match winless run, increasing pressure on Slot before the club decided to make a change.

Former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is currently the leading candidate to replace him at Anfield, while Oliver Glasner, Pierre Sage and Julian Nagelsmann have also been linked with the position.

According to Daily Mail, Slot is under consideration by AC Milan as the Serie A club searches for a new head coach following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri. Milan narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification after a poor run of form late in the season and eventually finished fifth in Serie A.

The club subsequently parted ways with Allegri and several senior executives as part of a major restructuring. Antonio Conte, Glasner, Marcelino and Unai Emery have all been linked with the vacancy, while Slot has now been added to the shortlist.

With his Liverpool exit complete, the 47-year-old is free to hold talks with interested clubs. However, it remains unclear whether he will seek an immediate return to management or take time away from the game.

Slot succeeded Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool in 2024 and won the Premier League title in his first season. However, a difficult second campaign ultimately led to his departure despite significant investment in the squad.
