Arne Slot has no sympathy for Pep Guardiola as Liverpool beat Manchester City

Liverpool are now 11 points above Man City after 13 league matches played so far

Arne Slot has admitted he does not feel sympathy for Pep Guardiola after Liverpool handed Manchester City their seventh consecutive game without a win, with a 2-0 victory at Anfield on Sunday.

Goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah in each half were enough to see the Premier League leaders restore their nine-point advantage, leaving them 11 points clear of the defending champions.

City, in contrast, have now suffered four straight Premier League defeats, with Sunday’s loss at Anfield marking their sixth defeat in recent weeks across all competitions.

Their struggles were compounded by a dramatic collapse in the Champions League on Tuesday, when they allowed a three-goal lead to slip away in the final 15 minutes, drawing 3-3 against Slot’s former club, Feyenoord, at the Etihad.

Despite the ongoing challenges faced by Guardiola’s side, Slot insists he does not feel sorry for the City manager.

The Dutch coach explained that his sympathy is reserved for managers whose teams are struggling near the bottom of the table, rather than those with the stature of Guardiola, whose side remains a formidable force despite their recent downturn.

“You feel sympathy or empathy with the managers in a really bad place,” Arne Slot said.

“They have lost many games or down at the bottom of the league, but Pep has won so many things and he has shown so many times already, so that is why the league is not decided in November or December.

“Last season they were eight points behind Arsenal I think in somewhere in February, so no one has to feel sympathy or empathy for Pep, maybe for other managers, but not Pep.

“Pep has won so many things and will be able to bring City back. They are actually still near the top of the the table but even more than they are now.”
