Arne Slot believes Mohamed Salah’s ability to consistently produce “special” performances comes as no surprise, with the forward once again proving instrumental in Liverpool’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Newcastle United.
Salah played a starring role during a pulsating Premier League encounter on Wednesday night, providing an assist, scoring twice, and rattling the crossbar in a sensational second-half display.
Liverpool had endured a sluggish opening 45 minutes, falling behind to a determined Newcastle side.
However, Salah’s inch-perfect pass set up Curtis Jones to spark a thrilling comeback.
Despite the Reds leading late into the game, Fabian Schär’s last-minute equalizer denied them victory, cutting Liverpool’s lead at the Premier League summit to seven points, with Chelsea and Arsenal in pursuit.
Salah’s influence this season has been undeniable.
The Egyptian superstar, whose contract negotiations with the club remain unresolved, has already registered an impressive 15 goals and 12 assists in just 21 appearances.
Slot said: “It’s difficult for me to predict the long-term future but I can predict that he is in a very good place at the moment and in a very good team that provides him with good opportunities and he is able to do special things.
“What makes him even more special is that in the first 50 minutes you thought that he’s not playing his best game today and then comes up with 45 minutes of an assist, two goals, hitting the bar and being a constant threat.
“That’s something not many players can do if they played the first 50 minutes like he did.
“That’s also what makes him special. If you just look at the goals his finishing is so clinical and shows he is a special player. But that’s what we all know.”
