Gini Wijnaldum reacts after old comments resurface amid Alexander Isak transfer saga
The Dutchman made it clear he does not want to be dragged into the ongoing transfer saga

Former Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has hit back after old comments resurfaced following his move to Newcastle United were linked to the current Alexander Isak situation.
The Dutchman made it clear he does not want to be dragged into the ongoing transfer saga.
Arne Slot’s side visit St James’ Park on Monday looking to secure back-to-back wins at the start of the Premier League season.
The trip to the North East comes against a backdrop of tension, with Isak’s future dominating the headlines.
The Sweden international has been training separately from his Newcastle teammates after expressing a desire to leave, with Liverpool showing strong interest in signing him.
Wijnaldum, who left Newcastle for Liverpool in 2016, saw old quotes resurface on Instagram in which he admitted he had made up his mind to join the Reds but chose not to force a move out of respect for Newcastle supporters.
The timing of those comments reappearing has frustrated Newcastle fans, who are angered by Isak’s stance and his attempts to push for a transfer.
However, Wijnaldum quickly distanced himself from the current situation, urging people not to misrepresent his past words.
He responded: “This is something I said almost 10 years ago before my move to Liverpool. Why do you post it like it’s my opinion about Isak and his decision?
“This is something between Isak and Newcastle/Liverpool – please keep me out of it. Thank you.”
He later shared the post on his Instagram story, adding the caption: “The media [facepalm emoji].”
Isak himself broke his silence earlier this week, accusing Newcastle of “broken promises” after they refused to sanction his exit this summer.
The Magpies responded firmly with an official statement following the forward’s public outburst, which came shortly after he was overlooked for the PFA Awards despite earning a place in the Premier League Team of the Season.
