Bruno Fernandes becomes first Man Utd player to break silence on Erik ten Hag sacking

The Dutchman was fired on Monday following the weekend's defeat to West Ham

Bruno Fernandes has extended heartfelt thanks to Erik ten Hag in light of the Dutchman’s departure from Manchester United.

Ten Hag was dismissed on Monday after Manchester United’s weekend defeat to West Ham.

The club confirmed his sacking in an official statement.

The statement read: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.

“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”

Man United captain Bruno Fernandes was the first among United players to respond to Erik ten Hag’s departure.

The Portuguese playmaker shared an emotional message on Instagram on Monday afternoon, expressing his sentiments about the manager’s exit.

Fernandes wrote: “Thanks for everything boss!

“I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together, I wish you all the best in the future.

“Even knowing the last period hasn’t been great from all of us I hope you fans can keep with you the good things the manager has done for our club!”

Fernandes racked up more appearances under Ten Hag than any other manager throughout his career.

The former Sporting Lisbon midfielder played in 120 matches under the Dutchman, contributing 29 goals and providing 32 assists.

During Ten Hag’s tenure, Bruno Fernandes also helped lift two trophies for Manchester United, with the team securing the Carabao Cup and FA Cup over the past two seasons.
