Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber spotted with Arsenal squad ahead of Liverpool tie

The Gunners have been closely monitoring the fitness of both players

Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber were both spotted with the Arsenal squad ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.

The Gunners have been closely monitoring Saka’s fitness after the England winger missed the last two games due to a muscle injury sustained during international duty earlier this month.

Timber, who was also sidelined during last week’s defeat to Bournemouth, raised concerns about his availability for Sunday’s must-win match against an in-form Liverpool.

His omission from the Netherlands squad for upcoming Nations League games added to doubts about his fitness.

When questioned on Friday, Mikel Arteta remained reserved on the likelihood of their return.

“It was the first session that he could have some involvement,” said Arteta when asked for an update on the former Ajax defender.

“He’s been out for a while.

“We expected him to be further along than he is at the moment.

‘Again, we will have to see.”

However, both players were seen arriving at the team hotel with their teammates on Saturday evening, suggesting they could be in contention to play.

Timber, who joined Arsenal from Ajax last summer, started five of the team’s first six Premier League matches this season before sustaining a muscle injury earlier this month.

Arsenal are already missing Martin Odegaard and William Saliba, and could also be without Riccardo Calafiori.

Calafiori limped off during Tuesday’s match against Shakhtar Donetsk after twisting his knee, while Bukayo Saka has not played since suffering a knee injury while on England duty earlier this month.

Liverpool, meanwhile are set to be without Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, and Federico Chiesa, in addition to long-term absentees Harvey Elliott and Alisson Becker.
