Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka has undergone surgery on a torn hamstring and is expected to be sidelined for around two months, according to Mikel Arteta.
The injury occurred during Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, with Saka limping off the pitch.
He was absent for their 1-0 win over Ipswich on Friday night, and the club had already confirmed that the winger would be out for “many, many weeks.”
After the narrow victory over Ipswich, which saw Arsenal rise to second in the Premier League, manager Mikel Arteta provided an update, confirming the surgery and outlining a recovery timeline of approximately two months for Bukayo Saka.
“He had a procedure. Everything went well, but unfortunately he will be out for many, many weeks,” he said.
Arteta added: “I said many weeks so I think it will be more than two months.
“I don’t know exactly how much longer. It will depend on how the scar tissue starts to heal, the first week or so, the mobility of that.
“Let’s see, it’s very difficult to say.”
Asked how he thought his side performed without Saka, Arteta told Match of the Day: “Very good. It will be different.
“We had moments in the second half. It is a unit that is new and will take time for players to understand fully.”
And asked by Prime Video whether Arsenal could look to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window, Arteta replied: “We don’t know. We will see, hopefully we don’t see any more injuries.”
