Christian Eriksen provides latest update on Manchester United contract situation

Christian Eriksen's contract expires at the end of the current season

Christian Eriksen has not ruled out the possibility of extending his stay at Manchester United beyond this season.

The Danish midfielder joined the club on a free transfer in July 2022 and is set to be out of contract at the end of June.

After struggling for game time in the latter half of last season, it seemed he might be gradually phased out this year.

However, Eriksen has started seven of United’s last eight matches, scoring three goals during this stretch.

He is expected to start tonight’s Europa League clash against Fenerbahce in Istanbul.

Despite initially stating that this season would be his last at United during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States, Eriksen has now indicated that he will seriously consider signing a new deal if the club offers one.

“It’s not really up to me, when my contract runs out, I think it’s up to the club and the position,” Christian Eriksen told the media.

“But no, I’m really enjoying my time [here].

“I have done for the last few years and I still do.

“So when the summer comes, I think if the offer is there from them, I definitely take it serious.”

The 32-year-old confirmed earlier this month that discussions regarding a new contract with Manchester United have yet to take place.

This season, he has appeared in nine of United’s opening 12 matches across all competitions, starting in seven of those games.

He has played a crucial role in United’s Europa League campaign so far, directly contributing to three of the four goals scored in the competition this term, with one goal and two assists.

Notably, he scored during the 1-1 draw against FC Twente last month.
