Wataru Endo ‘ready’ for Liverpool chances

The Reds came from behind to beat Brighton in the Premier League

Wataru Endo expressed gratitude to the Liverpool fans for their crucial role in Saturday’s comeback against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Reds struggled in the first half of the Premier League clash and went into the break trailing after Ferdi Kadioglu’s emphatic finish.

However, a surge in intensity on the pitch, combined with the passionate support from the stands, allowed Liverpool to turn the game around in the second half.

Cody Gakpo’s cross curled into the net to equalize, and just moments later, Mohamed Salah fired a trademark effort beyond Bart Verbruggen to give Liverpool the lead.

“The atmosphere in Anfield was crazy,” Wataru Endo, who came on from the bench for the final quarter-hour, told Liverpoolfc.com afterwards.

“I remember my goal against Fulham [in last December’s 4-3 win] and after that we scored again. Today was kind of a similar atmosphere in Anfield.

“They created an amazing atmosphere and I think we feel like we played plus one. Thank you for always supporting us.”

He added of a result that sent Liverpool two points clear at the top: “It was a tough game. First half, Brighton were playing very well. Second half, we kept the intensity high.

“I think that’s why we could score two. After we scored, I came in and my job was very clear. I just did my job and we’re glad to win this game.

“We know that our team needs everyone to contribute because we need to play a lot of games.

“I think everyone is trying to prepare well for every game, and if they have the chance they just play their best. Now we are keeping winning and everyone is doing their job, so we are good.

“Joey played very well, also all the players who were subbed in. I think everyone was ready for doing their job, that’s the important thing.

“For me, even if I start or not I just get ready for the chances and try to do my best.”

Asked if the players are glancing at the Premier League table at this point, Endo said: “No, not really.

“The thing we need is just to focus on every game and try to win it.

“I don’t see the table much, just try to win every game.”
