Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has hinted that the team might celebrate in similar fashion if they manage to defeat Liverpool this Sunday.
The Gunners are aiming to stay in contention with the Premier League leaders after Manchester City’s latest victory widened the gap to six points between the champions and the North London club.
Erling Haaland’s decisive goal also saw City surpass Liverpool, knocking the Reds off the top spot ahead of their showdown with Mikel Arteta’s side.
Despite only one loss in their first eight league games, Liverpool now faces a serious title challenge.
In Jurgen Klopp’s last encounter with Arsenal, his team suffered a 3-1 defeat in this fixture, a match remembered for the post-game celebrations where Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard famously grabbed a camera from the chief photographer to capture the moment with the jubilant Emirates crowd.
The display irked Sky Sports pundits, including former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.
Now, with Sunday’s clash looming, David Raya has hinted that a win for Arsenal could lead to similar celebratory scenes.
“Every win in the Premier League is important and I think we should celebrate every win the same,” he said.
“Of course, when we played them in the second half of last season, it was a massive three points for us and obviously that emotion for everybody to win against Liverpool is important and is also incredible.
“If we win on Sunday, it’s going to be the same emotions and same celebrations.
“They’re a top team.
“They’ve got a new manager and I think they’ve increased the level.
“They are very dangerous, they are going to come here for three points and we have to be ready for that.”
