Erik ten Hag spotted for the first time since Manchester United sacking
Manchester United have sacked Erik ten Hag as their manager
Erik ten Hag was seen boarding a private jet back to the Netherlands just hours after his dismissal as Manchester United manager.
The Dutchman was sacked by United officials on Monday morning after being summoned to a meeting at Carrington, where he was informed that his time in charge was over.
The decision to part ways with Ten Hag followed a disappointing 2-1 defeat at West Ham, which left the club languishing in 14th place in the Premier League.
After the announcement, the 54-year-old made a swift exit from Manchester, being picked up by a chauffeur and taken to Manchester Airport, where he boarded a flight to Amsterdam.
According to the Daily Mail, the meeting during which Ten Hag was informed of his dismissal was described as respectful and dignified, with CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth delivering the news.
United’s decision to axe Ten Hag after two and a half years in charge reflects the club’s struggles this season.
Names like former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, and ex-Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic have reportedly been considered for the role.
Until the meeting, Ten Hag was unaware of his fate. Sources indicate that the meeting was characterized by professionalism.
Although Ten Hag remains in Manchester for now, his car was spotted outside his home today.
He recorded a final press conference after Sunday’s match, intended to preview Manchester United’s Carabao Cup tie against Leicester City on Wednesday, but this will not be broadcast. Van Nistelrooy is not expected to comment until after the Leicester game.
Initially, Ten Hag’s flight was scheduled to depart at 2pm, however, it faced delays and eventually took off at 4:14pm, according to FlightRadar.
A club statement read: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.
“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
