Etienne Reijnen nearing move to Liverpool coaching staff

Reijnen impressed after joining Feyenoord in November 2023 as an analyst and advisor, prompting Slot to consider bringing him to Liverpool in 2024

According to 1908.nl, Arne Slot wants to add Etienne Reijnen to Liverpool’s staff in the near future. Following reports by Valentijn Driessen, sources close to Feyenoord have confirmed the interest in Robin van Persie’s assistant.

Reijnen impressed after joining Feyenoord in November 2023 as an analyst and advisor, prompting Slot to consider bringing him to Liverpool in 2024.

However, the move stalled due to work permit issues, as he lacked the required UEFA A licence.

Once completed, the path to Liverpool is expected to be clear, with Feyenoord set to lose a key tactical figure. Reports have also linked Giovanni van Bronckhorst with a return, though not in a technical role.

Arne Slot has hinted Liverpool will strengthen their coaching staff ahead of next season, amid reports that Etiënne Reijnen is set to join the club.

Asked on Friday about the possibility of making additions to his backroom staff, Slot said: “I think we all know we lot a member of staff during the season.

“We parted ways so it makes complete sense at this club, if someone is leaving a department, that you are looking at a replacement.

“In general for a club, it makes sense not only to look at player-wise but also staff-wise.

“We are always keeping our eyes open to improve the club and that means it could be a player but also a staff. We always look around to see how we can strengthen.”

Liverpool made several coaching changes last summer, with John Heitinga, Fabian Otte and Claudio Taffarel all departing, and being replaced by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Xavi Valero.

The potential arrival of Etienne Reijnen is further seen as evidence of Arne Slot’s secure position as Liverpool head coach.

Slot has been linked with a possible summer exit at points during the season, but is now expected to remain, provided Liverpool secure Champions League qualification.
