Federico Chiesa reportedly looking for way out of Liverpool in January

The Italian winger joined the Reds in August for an initial £10million fee, which could rise to £12.5million with add-ons

Federico Chiesa is reportedly eyeing a January exit from Liverpool, just five months after his summer move from Juventus.

The Italian winger joined the Reds in August for an initial £10million fee, which could rise to £12.5million with add-ons.

His arrival was the standout acquisition of Arne Slot’s first transfer window as Liverpool manager, with many hailing the 27-year-old as a “bargain” and a proven addition to Liverpool’s attacking arsenal.

However, Chiesa’s time at Anfield has been underwhelming so far.

Limited to just four appearances, including a single start in the Carabao Cup third-round win over West Ham, the winger has struggled for game time and fitness.

He has played only 18 minutes of Premier League football this season, largely playing second fiddle to Mohamed Salah.

According to Italian outlet FootMercato, Chiesa is seeking a loan move to regain form and minutes on the pitch.

Several Serie A clubs, including Napoli, AC Milan, and Fiorentina, are reportedly interested in the Italian international.

Napoli and Milan are believed to be leading the race, with Milan holding sentimental significance as the team Chiesa faced in his Liverpool Champions League debut.

Fiorentina, Chiesa’s former club, is also keen to bring him back to Florence.

Despite the speculation, it is understood that Chiesa is not seeking a permanent move away from Anfield.

His frustrations appear to stem from limited opportunities and recurring injuries, which have disrupted his integration into Slot’s high-performing side.

Chiesa made his Premier League debut in September as a late substitute during Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth.

However, setbacks have left him sidelined, and he was an unused substitute in the Boxing Day victory against Leicester City.

When asked about Chiesa’s situation, Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed optimism, stating that the winger is working his way back to full fitness.

Slot may yet have plans for the talented Italian as the Reds navigate the second half of the season in their pursuit of silverware.

“You see him on the pitch now, it means he’s getting stronger and better. He had to adapt for quite a long time,” Slot said.

“I’ve said so many times, as expected if you miss team training sessions for so long.

“And then you go to a league where the intensity is so high as well, and to a team who plays with a lot of intensity.

“He is getting stronger, but he’s also facing a lot of competition in the right-wing position.”
