Florian Wirtz believes Liverpool have “a good base to build on” as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to 2026-27 against Bournemouth on Sunday.
The Reds will kick off at 2pm BST at Vitality Stadium, with Andoni Iraola’s side seeking a second Premier League win after one victory and three draws so far.
Liverpool began their Champions League campaign with a win over Atletico Madrid before progressing to the Carabao Cup fourth round with a midweek victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
“It’s good that we are still unbeaten,” Florian Wirtz told Liverpoolfc.com ahead of the trip to face the Cherries.
“For sure we want to have more points at this stage. But I think it’s still a good base to build on – let’s try to keep going like that and get even more points.”

On the ‘momentum’ gathered from the win over Tottenham and how he found watching in the stands…
Of course, I like more to be on the pitch! But it was the first time I watched it [a game] from higher in the stadium in the stands. It was nice to watch and also a good win for us and for the mind. That definitely helps to build the momentum.
On how he found experiencing Anfield as a spectator…
Yes, it was nice! I feel the atmosphere every week on the pitch and it was also nice to sit for one time with the fans and just experience it from this side.
On how he feels the team has adapted to Iraola’s style of play in the early part of the season…
I think he has made his ideas very clear from the start. I feel that the team understands it more and more and we just make it better every week and in every game. I think it’s going in a good direction.
On what the message has been from Iraola to his attacking players…
I think we had a few games where we could have scored more goals to win the game. I have also the expectations for myself to decide games. We need me and the attackers to finish the games off, so we definitely try to work on that.
On facing Bournemouth this weekend…
I played I think one time over there and it was already hard. My teammates told me before it’s going to be a hard game but there are quite a lot [of those] in the league. It will be an intense game.
We have to be very ready. I think the manager knows them really well so maybe there’s a small advantage we have – but we have to be ready and very focused for this game.
