Guglielmo Vicario reveals he ‘played 60 minutes with a broken ankle’ in Tottenham’s win over Man City

On Monday, Spurs confirmed that Vicario had undergone surgery on his right ankle

Guglielmo Vicario has revealed that he played with a broken ankle for over an hour during Tottenham’s stunning 4-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The win, which saw James Maddison score a brace, shocked the English champions and handed them their fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions, including their third straight loss in the Premier League.

While Tottenham celebrated their dominant performance, Vicario was visibly limping as he left the stadium.

On Monday, Spurs confirmed that Vicario had undergone surgery on his right ankle.

Later that day, the Italian shot-stopper provided an update on his condition, revealing that he had played through the pain for 60 minutes despite suffering from a broken bone in his ankle.

Vicario still managed to make five key saves during that time.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will next be in action in the Europa League on Thursday, as they face AS Roma, before returning to Premier League action against Fulham on Sunday.

On his Instagram, Guglielmo Vicario wrote: “Sometimes football gives you its highs, and sometimes it challenges you in ways you don’t expect.

“I played 60 minutes at the Etihad with a broken bone in my ankle, giving absolutely everything I had for the team. Unfortunately, there was no way around this one. I needed surgery.

“I’m disappointed I won’t be able to help the team for a while.

“A massive thank you to the doctors and the staff.

“The operation went well, and from tomorrow I’ll be working hard to come back stronger, fitter, and ready to give my all for you again.

“Thank you to the Spurs fans for all the love. See you soon on the pitch.”
