I am the right guy at the right moment – Man United boss Ruben Amorim
Ruben Amorim becomes the sixth permanent manager to take the helm at United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013
Ruben Amorim has expressed confidence that he is “the right man at the right moment” to lead Manchester United back to prominence.
The 39-year-old spoke to the media for the first time as United’s new boss ahead of his debut match in charge, an away fixture against Ipswich on Sunday.
Amorim, who joins from Sporting Lisbon, exuded assurance as he outlined his vision for the club and reiterated his belief that he is the right choice to rejuvenate the fallen giants – despite describing himself as a “dreamer.”
Ruben Amorim becomes the sixth permanent manager to take the helm at United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, the year the club last won the Premier League title.
“Call me naïve, but I believe I am the right guy at the right moment,” said Amorim. “I truly believe I am the right guy.
“I am a little bit of a dreamer and I believe in myself and I believe in the club. I think we have the same idea, the same mindset and that can help. I truly believe in the players, also. I think we have room to improve and I want to try new things.
“You guys think it is not possible, I think it’s possible. We have space to grow as a team. I think we have to improve in a lot of areas, the understanding of the game, it’s a different way of playing and we are changing in the middle of the season.
“I think we have to improve the physical aspect of the team. I don’t know how long it will take, but I know if you are at Manchester United you have to win games, so I will not tell you I need a lot of time. It’s a great league, the strongest in the world, and we have to improve a lot. We have to win games and then to win titles.
“If you want to speak about the team, I think we lose the ball too often and we have to be better at running back. I think that is clear to everyone and I think we have to be better on the details. We have to improve on the small things. In the small things, I think I can help a lot.”
