Liverpool defender Jeremie Frimpong provides injury update

The Dutch full-back suffered his second hamstring injury of the season during the 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, pulling up in the first half

Liverpool defender Jeremie Frimpong has revealed that he is working hard to return to action following his latest injury setback.

The Dutch full-back suffered his second hamstring injury of the season during the 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, pulling up in the first half.

Frimpong has missed the last five matches due to the injury, adding to a series of fitness struggles for the former Bayer Leverkusen defender.

The 24-year-old was also withdrawn on his Premier League debut for Liverpool against Bournemouth and missed the early-season clashes against Newcastle United and Arsenal.

The full-back’s absences have coincided with Liverpool grappling with the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Following Alexander-Arnold’s exit, the Reds signed Jeremie Frimpong to compete with Conor Bradley for a starting role at right-back.

However, injuries to both players have forced Dominik Szoboszlai to fill in defensively.

Frimpong offered fans a positive update on his recovery via Snapchat, posting a picture of himself in action for the Netherlands with the caption: “Working hard to be back soon 💪.”

This follows a series of social media posts showing him progressing through rehabilitation exercises at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre in Kirkby, under the supervision of the club’s medical team.

He has also been pictured running and performing drills on the training pitch in Merseyside.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed that Frimpong is expected to return after the international break but admitted the defender faces a race to be fit for the upcoming Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, November 22.

Slot cautioned that he does not expect the Bundesliga-winning full-back to be fully match-ready for that fixture.

“Alisson for sure and I expect Jeremie back after the international break as well because we play from November until March,” said the former Feyenoord boss.

“But I don’t expect Jeremie to be fully fit for Forest, but with Alisson we expect this.”
