Joe Gomez will undergo a scan to assess the hamstring injury he sustained during Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League win over Brighton.
The defender was forced off after 26 minutes on Saturday after pulling up, with Mohamed Salah coming on and Dominik Szoboszlai moving to right-back.
It ended a run of five consecutive appearances for Gomez, his longest since December 2024, and came in his second start in five days after featuring against Inter Milan.
Liverpool could now be without Joe Gomez for a period, with the scan set to determine the severity of the injury.
While a scan does not automatically indicate a serious problem, it is a concern given Gomez’s recent injury history.
He required surgery on his left hamstring in February and missed three months following a recurrence of an issue first suffered in December.
It remains unclear whether the latest injury is to the same leg.
Gomez is expected to learn the results within the next week, with Arne Slot hoping the setback is not long term.
“If I have a player who goes off with a muscle injury like Joe, that’s normally not a positive thing,” he told the club’s official website.
“I would not expect him to be in the squad next week. But sometimes you get a positive surprise.
“People now maybe understand a bit better why I was always so cautious not to play him so many games. I assume many people thought, ‘if you have a defender, if you have a right full-back, why don’t you play him?’.”
