Liverpool have made an initial approach to AS Monaco over the potential signing of winger Maghnes Akliouche, according to Sky Sports.
The Reds are understood to have enquired about the availability of the 24-year-old France international, who is also a priority target for Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG have already submitted several offers for Akliouche, but Monaco have rejected each of them, with the latest bid believed to be worth around £34 million (€40m).
Maghnes Akliouche, who was part of France’s World Cup squad and was an unused substitute in the 6-4 third-place play-off defeat to England, enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 campaign. He scored six goals and provided six assists in 31 Ligue 1 appearances.
Capable of playing as a right winger or an attacking midfielder, Akliouche fits the profile Liverpool are targeting as they continue their search for a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.
The Frenchman is regarded as one of Ligue 1’s best ball carriers and chance creators, while his ability to win possession high up the pitch makes him a strong fit for Andoni Iraola’s high-intensity pressing system.
Liverpool have already strengthened their attack with the £34.5million signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna, but Iraola recently admitted the club are still looking to add further reinforcements ahead of the new season.
“We definitely need to sign a winger,” he said, as the club look to bolster their options out wide following Mohamed Salah’s exit at the end of last season.
Liverpool were also interested in RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande earlier in the transfer window, but a deal has stalled after the Bundesliga club valued the Ivory Coast international at around £112million.
The Reds were prepared to pay approximately £86million, leaving a significant gap in negotiations.
As a result, Liverpool have turned their attention to alternative targets, with Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche now emerging as a serious option.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Sunderland in the United States, head coach Andoni Iraola admitted further additions are needed before the start of his first season in charge.
When asked how many more signings he wanted, Iraola said: “No, I think it’s difficult to say a number when the market is open.
“You have to always be open to new options to improve the squad. There are obvious situations that we know where we need to sign players. A winger, for example – we definitely need to sign a winger.
“But there are other situations that we will have to analyse what the market gives you, what’s the cost, how we also see the players we have.
“We have some tricky positions where we have injured players that we trust but is still not the ideal situation. So, it will depend on a lot of things.”
