Liverpool make move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak

Liverpool’s priority in the transfer market is to secure a top-class No. 9 to reinforce their attacking options

Liverpool have expressed interest in signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, according to The Athletic.

While no formal offer has been submitted, Liverpool are understood to be aware that Newcastle’s stance remains firm – Isak is not for sale.

However, the Merseyside club have communicated their willingness to negotiate a deal in the region of £120million.

Liverpool’s admiration for the 25-year-old striker has been long-standing. Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike has also been monitored by the club.

There has been no official contact between Liverpool and Eintracht Frankfurt regarding Ekitike.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are working to recruit Ekitike but have yet to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga club or the 23-year-old French youth international.

Sensitivities around Liverpool remain understandably high following the tragic death of Diogo Jota earlier this month.

Despite this, there is a clear awareness within the club of the need to strengthen their squad this summer.

Liverpool’s priority in the transfer market is to secure a top-class No. 9 to reinforce their attacking options.

The Reds have already broken their transfer record this summer with the signing of attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial fee of £100million, with potential add-ons worth £16million.

Liverpool earlier rejected a €67.5million bid from Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz, who has made it clear he wants to leave the Premier League side.

Isak has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances for Newcastle since joining from Real Sociedad in a deal reportedly worth around £60 million.

Last season was his most prolific in England, with 27 goals in 42 games, helping Newcastle secure Champions League qualification with a fifth-place finish in the Premier League. He has three years remaining on his contract.

Liverpool currently lack an established first-choice striker.

Federico Chiesa is considered an option, while Napoli and Al Hilal have been linked with interest in Darwin Nunez. It is expected that a move for Nunez will progress again soon.
